Organisation Summary

Bird of Prey Rescue, Rehabilitation & Release provides a rescue and rehabilitation service for injured Australian raptors. It was founded in 2013 by Deborah Carter who is a member of the Society for the Preservation of Raptors and the Queensland Wildlife Rehabilitation Council. Together with a team of volunteers and a enthusiastic community network Deborah has dedicated her life to rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing injured and orphaned raptors in the Townsville & greater region.

BOPRRR relies entirely on these valuable volunteers and kind donations from the public to feed, accommodate and medically treat injured and orphaned birds. Of arguably greater impact is the opportunity for Deborah to engage through educational programs she operates. Such education can instil generational change with the public attitude regarding these precious birds, then ensuring the commitment to their care and conservation. Deborah’s willingness to collaborate with other charity’s, wildlife carers, researchers, and community members showcases the ability to build partnerships and work collectively towards a common goal.

BOPRR is preparing a program to Involve the local indigenous youth. It will be a hands-on experience guided by Deborah & local elder over a period of 4 weeks. Eligible youth will connect with an educational raptor and deepen their understanding of wildlife rehab and conservation. Such a unique experience can contribute to healing any mental health or hardships they are facing.
