For nearly 50 years, Bondi Beach Cottage (BBC) has been a trusted, community-based organisation in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs, supporting women and children experiencing adversity, including domestic and family violence.

BBC provides trauma-informed counselling in a safe, welcoming, and non-clinical environment, offering free or low-cost support without the barriers often associated with crisis services. Our approach is relational, feminist, and strengths-based, enabling women to stabilise, process their experiences, and rebuild in their own time.

A key strength of BBC is our integrated service model. Alongside counselling, we operate an on-site Occasional Childcare (OCC) service, allowing mothers to attend sessions while their children are safely cared for. This removes a critical barrier to access and supports sustained engagement. Importantly, it also enables us to work directly with children through trauma-informed, play-based environments that promote emotional regulation, secure attachment, and developmental well-being.

BBC is increasingly focused on early intervention and whole-of-family support. Many of the women we support are not in immediate crisis but are navigating complex challenges that, without timely intervention, may escalate. Our work fills a critical gap between prevention and crisis response, reducing long-term harm and strengthening family functioning.

We are currently strengthening our intake and case coordination capacity to improve responsiveness and reduce wait times, while expanding therapeutic group programs and child-focused supports. This includes the development of integrated, trauma-informed initiatives that better respond to the needs of young children and their caregivers.
