Organisation Summary

Ten children a day are diagnosed with neurological conditions or acquired brain injuries. They, and their families, will never be the same again. They face financial hardship through losing a breadwinner to be the 24/7 carer, social isolation, exhaustion, guilt, family breakdown and frustration with the health and disability systems.

Started by one of these parents in 1994, Brainwave Australia is the only organisation to support these children and their families nationally to live the best lives they can through information and advice, networking with other parents, funding of therapy and equipment and family activities. Today, we support over 1,800 families across the country and have partnerships with all the children’s hospitals.

Established in 2022, Brainwave Bikes is an award-winning certified social enterprise that receives, recycles, refurbishes and retails used bikes. Over the last three years, over 8,000 bikes have been recycled saving over 100 tonnes of waste, with 46% refurbished and sold or donated, saving over 500 tonnes of carbon emissions, together with enabling 17 unemployed young people with disabilities to build the skills needed to enter the workforce.
