Burdekin is a not-for-profit organisation that has supported children, young people, and families across Sydney since 1987. Our vision is for every young person to live to their full potential, and our mission is to prevent homelessness and provide safe homes, care, and opportunities that foster resilience and wellbeing.
We address critical issues including youth homelessness, the prevention of homelessness, the needs of children and young people placed in out-of-home care due to trauma, neglect, or abuse, and the delivery of community outreach and early intervention programs. With more than three decades of experience, Burdekin is uniquely placed to respond to these challenges. Each night, we provide care and accommodation for 136 children and young people. In 2025, over 200 accessed housing through our programs, with outreach supporting an additional 500. Of those leaving our care, 89% were safely restored to family and 75% re-engaged in education or training—clear evidence of the lasting impact of our work.
Our current priority is to reduce the client-to-case-manager ratio, enabling even more targeted, individualised support. With funding, we can expand capacity, strengthen services, and continue creating pathways to stability, independence, and brighter futures for vulnerable young people.
