Burrongglo Aboriginal Corporation’s (BAC) vision is to offer at-risk youth from across the Kimberley region a culturally safe and inclusive space that nurtures and promotes the process of recovery, empowerment and healing from the trauma, grief and loss associated with suicide.

We will engage with them through a cultural and social empowerment and healing model centred on re-establishing their spiritual and cultural connection with self, family, community and country. BAC was incorporated in 2016 and the first camp was held in 2017. Our cultural camps are held on our family outstation. BAC is wanting to increase our cultural camps to include at risk youth and families.

Through our cultural camps BAC program will promote the communal values and practice of sharing, caring and providing for all community members. This will not only raise the awareness of the adverse impacts of suicide but more importantly emphasize the focus and message of live preservation and promotion by embedding the importance of our identity of belonging and culture, acknowledgment and worth of self, others and elders and capacity building of self and leadership.

Furthermore the cultural camp will be underpinned by traditional and contemporary Aboriginal Culture to ensure youth have the skills and ability to successfully coexist as a young indigenous person/s in two (2) worlds (Modern and traditional societies). The week long cultural camp will consist a series of Empowerment, Healing, social, emotional, health and well-being, life skills, leadership and cultural activities such as learning how to make bush medicine.
