Capricorn Conservation Council (CCC) is a community-based, not-for-profit environmental organisation working across Central Queensland to protect nature, strengthen community leadership, and support culturally-led caring for Country. Our vision is a healthy, resilient region where people, culture and ecosystems thrive together. Our mission is to empower communities—particularly young people and First Nations leaders—to care for land and sea through education, advocacy, and on-Country action.
CCC addresses the urgent and compounding pressures facing Central Queensland’s natural and cultural landscapes, including climate change, habitat loss, declining biodiversity, and the erosion of cultural knowledge and community capacity. We work at the intersection of conservation, education, and Indigenous-led practice, ensuring environmental outcomes are grounded in cultural authority, local knowledge, and long-term relationships.
Our current priorities include Indigenous-led caring for Country programs, youth leadership and environmental education, women in science and community leadership, community climate resilience, and place-based conservation and advocacy. We deliver immersive on-Country programs, community events, research partnerships, and policy engagement that connect people directly with Country and decision-making.
