The Capricorn Conservation Council (CCC) is the peak environmental advocacy organisation in Central Queensland, operating since 1973. We are based in Rockhampton and respectfully work across Country to support conservation, sustainability, and ecological justice. Our mission is to protect, conserve, and enhance biodiversity through science-based advocacy, indigenous-led conservation, and inclusive community engagement.
CCC is guided by five core values: biodiversity protection, indigenous leadership, science-based advocacy, climate action, and community empowerment. We work in partnership with Traditional Owners, Elders, conservation networks, government, schools, and businesses to deliver local and regional environmental outcomes.
Our work includes environmental education, public policy advocacy, land restoration, and campaign coordination. We host a youth sub-committee to empower young leaders and embed youth voices in conservation. Our partnerships with Rockhampton Regional Council, Livingstone Shire Council, and the Queensland Conservation Council enable us to address environmental issues across policy, planning, and public awareness.
CCC is actively expanding its Indigenous-led “Caring for Country” programs, which center cultural knowledge, land stewardship, and community healing. Our operational focus from 2025–2027 includes securing new funding, strengthening partnerships, supporting cultural leadership, and increasing the public’s capacity to act on climate and biodiversity crises.
We are a voice for the environment—for this generation and the next.
