Founded in 1982 by parents who had experienced this battle firsthand, and with the support of Paediatric Oncologist Dr Michael Rice AM, the Childhood Cancer Association (CCA) was created to meet real and urgent needs. Four decades later, that same determination continues to drive everything we do.
Today, CCA is the key organisation in South Australia providing wrap-around emotional, practical and psychological support to children with cancer and their families. We currently support more than 450 families, including those from regional South Australia, the Northern Territory, country Victoria and New South Wales who receive treatment in Adelaide.
Our free, tailored support begins the moment a child is diagnosed and continues throughout treatment, into survivorship or bereavement.
Services are delivered by qualified psychologists and support staff, and include:
- Accommodation for regional families and respite stays
- Family Support Programs including hospital visits, counselling, sibling and grandparent support
- Bereavement Support & Programs
- Educational Assistance
- Practical and financial support
Unlike many health charities, CCA receives no ongoing government funding. Every counselling session, hospital visit, night of accommodation and moment of care is made possible thanks to generous donors, partners and community support.
