Organisation Summary

Classroom of Hope builds schools using recycled materials in developing nations, because everyone deserves access to quality education and a cleaner planet. We envision a clean world where every child thrives in safe, uplifting schools. In our 11-year history, Classroom of Hope has been dedicated to providing quality education to children across South East Asia, having developed 109 schools and over 300 classrooms, benefiting nearly 30,000 children. Recognising the pressing need to address climate and plastic waste challenges, we initiated a mission to explore innovative solutions for more sustainable building practices.

Our Block Schools program officially commenced in June 2021, marking a significant milestone with the construction of the world’s first Block School using Block Solutions Finnish technology and recycled plastic. Since then, we have continued to advance this pioneering approach, completing 21 block schools (64 classrooms) and 4 block homes, along with 26 toilets. Additionally, we have established plans to build 117 block schools in Lombok, Indonesia, all constructed from recycled plastic waste. Our efforts to date have resulted in the removal of over 90 tons of plastic waste from the environment, with a projected total of 540 tons removed upon completion, significantly reducing carbon emissions.

We are currently expanding our Block Schools program with the introduction of Community Enrichment education programs in collaboration with local NGO Good Neighbours Indonesia. This initiative targets vital areas such as waste management, child rights literacy, early marriage prevention, and English teacher training. Our aim is to enhance teacher capabilities, boost English proficiency, create job opportunities, encourage recycling, advocate for child rights, and combat school dropouts due to early marriage.

By implementing these programs, we’re not only responding to the aftermath of a natural disaster but also revolutionising education in North Lombok, offering children hope and empowerment
