Community Defib Project is an Australian not-for-profit organisation dedicated to saving lives by increasing access to Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) and improving community awareness and preparedness for sudden cardiac arrest.
Sudden cardiac arrest can affect anyone, anywhere, and survival rates decrease by up to 10% for every minute without defibrillation. Community Defib Project addresses this critical gap by working with local communities, councils, sporting clubs, businesses and community organisations to install publicly accessible defibrillators in high-need locations and educate the public on their use.
The organisation focuses on:
– Improving equitable access to life-saving defibrillators in regional, rural and community settings
– Reducing response times in cardiac emergencies where ambulance arrival may be delayed
– Building community confidence through education, awareness and normalising bystander intervention
Community Defib Project delivers its work through partnerships, fundraising, community engagement and advocacy, ensuring defibrillators are strategically placed, registered, maintained and clearly signposted. The organisation also promotes public education to remove fear and hesitation around using AEDs, reinforcing that early action saves lives.
With a strong community-led model, Community Defib Project enables local ownership while providing the expertise, coordination and oversight needed to ensure long-term effectiveness and sustainability. The organisation operates with a strong focus on impact, accountability and efficient use of funds, ensuring donations and grant funding directly contribute to improved emergency response outcomes.
Community Defib Project exists to create safer communities — where access to a defibrillator is not a matter of luck, but a standard part of public safety infrastructure.
