Connecting Mothers In Grief

Connecting Mothers in Grief is the first Australian charity that provides free support and programs for Australian mothers who have lost a child of any age by any means. The organisation offers peer led programs , online workshops and in person meetings. Many bereaved mothers cannot access traditional mental health support for financial reasons, because of their location, or the traditional model does not meet their needs.

In 2022 there were more than 8000 deaths under the age of 44 in Australia. (ABS). It is staggering to think that in five years that figure would surpass 40,000 mothers who would be in need of this charity. Losing a child is an unimaginable pain and for bereaved mothers, the grief journey can feel isolating and overwhelming. It is common for bereaved mothers struggle financially because their heart ache is all consuming and can interfere with employment stability and unforeseen financial burdens.

Connecting Mothers in Grief offers these mothers connection to a compassionate, non judgemental community and healing resources. The charity was founded by two bereaved mothers. One who lost her 20 year old son to a rare bone cancer and another who lost her 15 year old daughter in a tragic and traumatic accident. Both of these mums work voluntarily and need donations to fund the website, social media pages, accounts and programs. Funding is also essential to reach more bereaved mothers across Australia who need a space of compassion and hope.
