The Cowboys Community Foundation is the charity arm of the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys, supporting the community that supports us through our life-changing programs.
We deliver outcomes-driven community programs that remove geographic, health and wellbeing, cultural and economic barriers that stand in the way of equitable access to pathways for a fulfilling life.
One of our flagship initiatives is NRL Cowboys House – a unique, culturally-safe boarding facility for young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men and women attending partner schools in Townsville.
Students are supported by dedicated teams in education, wellbeing, culture and career transitions in a holistic wraparound model of care.
What we do is incredibly unique and effective. NRL Cowboys House tackles a national problem. The stark reality:
Only 42-53% of Indigenous Australians from remote to very remote areas attain secondary school completion.
As remoteness increases, the percentage of Indigenous students meeting literacy and numeracy benchmarks drops. Our baseline testing shows students are on average 3-4 years behind their peers upon arrival at the House.
Students are referred to our initiative through primary schools within their remote communities, with the endorsement of their families. These communities lack educational provisions beyond either primary or year 10 levels, necessitating students to relocate for their ongoing education.
To date, 83 students have graduates with their Year 12 certificate.
Our support continues to ensure every graduate is prepared for further education, training and apprenticeships or employment through our Year 13 and 14 Transitions Program and Graduate Campus.
