Creative Sparks Projects

Creative Sparks Projects is a youth-focused arts initiative that uses creativity to empower young people, strengthen communities, and foster positive mental health and wellbeing. Our mission is to connect young people to their communities through art and creativity —particularly those from disadvantaged, rural, and regional areas—in meaningful, creative experiences that build confidence, belonging, and pride in their community.

Founded in 2021 by professional artist Kyle BrightSide, Creative Sparks Projects began as a one-off mural project designed to involve local youth in creating public art. The impact was immediate and profound. Beyond the finished mural, young participants gained a renewed sense of self-worth, teamwork skills, and connection to their environment. Recognising the need for more programs like this, Kyle developed Creative Sparks Projects into a growing not-for-profit organisation dedicated to expanding arts-based engagement for youth across Victoria and Australia.

Creative Sparks Projects now delivers two flagship initiatives: the School Mural Program, which provides co-designed, wellbeing-focused mural projects in rural and low-SES schools, and the Creative Sparks Community Platform, which partners with councils, youth services, government departments and local groups to deliver community-wide projects that connect and uplift entire neighbourhoods through youth-led creativity.

By giving young people a platform to express themselves, Creative Sparks Projects strengthens protective factors for mental health while creating lasting public art that communities take pride in. Our programs promote inclusion, reduce stigma, and break cycles of disengagement—because when young people feel seen, heard, and valued, they go on to shape safer, stronger, more connected communities.
