Curtin Bystander Project training and research believes everyone can make a difference. Our programs challenge the core attitudes, beliefs and behaviours that normalise violence against women, providing training which creates awareness of the simple yet powerful techniques that can safely empower bystanders to act.
Together, we show individuals that one person can make a difference and provide them with the tools and information to safely become personal leaders and effective bystanders in the prevention of domestic violence and gendered violence. We raise awareness around the ways in which abusive behaviour is embedded in our culture as well as the subtler issues that support a potentially harmful environment. Together we explore what is FDV and the link between the key drivers of violence against women, gaining insights into how these factors contribute to the alarming rates of FDV and sexual violence in Australia.
Many people may recognise that violence does not align with their values, but do not have the opportunity to take a deep dive on the topic in a safe environment and learn ways they and their communities can safely speak up and say such harmful behaviours are not acceptable. We create a safe space for people learn and share their opinions as well as any experiences they may have had with problematic behaviour to bring light to issues that are often not discussed.
