Dawn House is a Domestic and Family Violence organisation based in Darwin for Women and Children. Where we offer crisis refuge, counselling, holistic supports and community education.
Dawn House Women and Children’s Shelter derived its name from ‘Dawn’, meaning ‘the first appearance of light, daybreak, a beginning’; a concept dating back more than 1500 years. Dawn House marks a new beginning for the women who come into it.
The service began in 1976 and is still locally run and governed in Darwin. Dawn House has always been a service that is run by women, for women and their children. Women’s Shelter provides safe and secure crisis accommodation for women with accompanying children escaping domestic violence in their homes or community.
The Domestic Violence Counselling Service is a free and confidential service for women who are currently experiencing or escaping domestic violence and women who have experienced domestic violence in the past.
Domestic Violence Community Education is a service which aims to increase the community’s ability to appropriately respond to domestic and family violence by raising awareness and understanding through education and community development projects.
