Organisation Summary

Deserving Better WA’s core mission is to empower marginalised West Australian individuals through education, support, and advocacy, fostering their belief that they deserve better.

Deserving Better WA was established to address a critical gap in the family and domestic violence (FDV) service system for individuals experiencing coercive control who are unable or unwilling to access traditional pathways.
Many people we support are excluded from existing services due to:
– Perceived financial security on paper, despite having no real financial autonomy
– Lack of visible or physical indicators of abuse
– Shame and self-blame common to coercive control dynamics
– Fear of stigma, retaliation, or community repercussions

As a result, risk often escalates unnoticed until crisis point. Deserving Better WA provides early, discreet, relationship-based intervention, reducing harm and easing pressure on statutory systems.

Our model is intentionally barrier-free, trauma-informed, and longitudinal. We do not impose limits on contact, recognising that coercive control is chronic and that many clients require support over several years.
