For 53 years Duke Street Community House (DSCH) have been working with and for their local community. With over 350 community members accessing our services and programs each and every week. We provide a welcoming, safe and caring space for community to access: aid, education, connection, services, referral, support and information.
We strive to respond to the needs of our community, support and promote community wellbeing, resilience and connection. We promote inclusion by providing programs that break down language, health, and other barriers by creating opportunities for full community participation. We create opportunities for participation in economic, civic and community life through employment, volunteering, social and recreation programming. We support pathways out of poverty through education and access to help, information and referral.
Duke Street Community House is dedicated to address inequity and providing relief to community members experiencing hardship, poverty and distress due to socio-economic status, age, disability, poor mental health and/or refugee status.
Just some of the ways we do this:
– Offer free social and recreational programs.
– Provide information, referral and advocacy.
– Weekly Food Relief and Material Aid program.
– Create volunteer and work experience opportunities.
– Provide access to low-cost and subsidised education as a Learn Local.
– Free access to English and Digital Literacy Education for community members experiencing hardship as well as those seeking asylum.
