Earthwatch Australia is a registered environmental charity committed to empowering people to take action for the planet. As part of the global Earthwatch network, our mission is to connect individuals with science and nature to drive meaningful environmental change. Our vision is a world where society lives in harmony with nature.

We address urgent environmental challenges—climate change, biodiversity loss, and ecosystem degradation—through citizen science and collaborative research. Our programs engage schools, communities, businesses, and Indigenous groups in hands-on scientific fieldwork across four key areas: wetlands, climate, biodiversity, and oceans.

Earthwatch is uniquely positioned to lead this work through our partnerships with leading research institutions and our proven model of engaging citizen scientists. In 2024, we delivered over 35,000 hours of citizen science and more than 70% of our projects were conducted in marginalised, regional and remote areas of Australia.

Funding from the Australian Communities Foundation would directly support our efforts to safeguard Australia’s natural ecosystems and build climate resilience—aligning with the Foundation’s focus on environmental protection and systemic change. Specifically, it would help expand our Indigenous-led collaborations, scale our climate education programs, and support long-term citizen science initiatives that inform policy and empower communities.

Our impact is evidenced by contributions to national waterway health report cards, biodiversity discoveries, and increased conservation behaviours among participants. Earthwatch Australia holds DGR1 status, ensuring all donations over $2 are tax-deductible.
