Embrace Kids has a vision to create a world where young people are free from feeling judgement and shame about their bodies. Through our suite of age-appropriate programs we get in early to teach the message of body appreciation to young people; and to educate the parents, educators, and professionals around them to create more inclusive body image environments. Building better body image from the beginning has the power to minimise lifetime risk of eating disorders, depression, and anxiety – and help young people achieve optimal health and wellbeing.
By changing the body image environments around young people, we can directly impact the way they feel about their appearance. We are the only charity in the country to do this in a way that brings together the science and evidence for impact. This enables us to address one of the biggest and often unspoken determinants of mental health distress in young people – the pressure they are under to look a certain way.
We are also the only organisation in the world that provides body image education and resources to early learning centres for 0-5 year old children. One of the reasons we developed this program was because, heartbreakingly, we realised that body image distress, and the devastating impact it can have on a person’s mental health, was starting in this age group.
