Organisation Summary

Enabled.VIP is an award-winning and national online platform providing assistance to Australians with a disability who wish to join the workforce through self-employment and entrepreneurship (by establishing/operating a small business, a gig-based service, or a magnetised hobby/craft. We are a disability led and guided disability service.

Our participants face barriers to joining the workforce that the remainder of the population do not experience. We believe that these barriers can be overcome through self-employment and entrepreneurship.

Through our online platform we provide our members with an extensive resource library, monthly webinars with guest hosts and one-to-one mentoring from current business owners. Only 48% of Australians with disability are engaged with the workforce, compared to 81% of the non-disabled. Around 45% of Australians with disability live in poverty.

The ABC recently reported that over the last 30+ years a succession of Australian government (of both major parties) have spent over a billion dollars and have only improved the right by a pathetic 8%. It is time for a constructive and community led change.

The current approach in Australia to improving the level of disability workforce engagement focuses almost exclusively getting people with disability into a ‘regular job’, this ignores the fact that for many disabilities, people will not know hour-to-hour if they will be well enough to work. It also ignores the skills and potential of individuals. Disability entrepreneurship is a promising solution to these apparently intractable problems. The platform provides support to allow Australians with disability to pursue their entrepreneurial potential.
