for nature in the Northern Territory.

The Northern Territory is a global treasure for nature.

From magnificent free-flowing rivers to vast, intact savanna woodlands and near-pristine coastlines, our land and waters continue to be managed by First Nations peoples. Here and around the world, people are awed by the sheer wonder of our land and seascapes.

Yet unprecedented fossil fuel extraction, industrial-scale agriculture, and the twin climate and biodiversity crises threaten to turn the Northern Territory’s landscapes into a sacrifice zone.

The Northern Territory could become a giant of renewable energy and an international leader in nature tourism. A brighter future is possible, but only if we protect—not squander—the Northern Territory’s iconic places.

Working hand in hand with communities across the Territory, we have courageously and successfully defended our magnificent landscapes.

From campaigns to stop three proposed mines in Kakadu National Park—Koongarra, Jabiluka and Coronation Hill—to securing a ban on seabed mining along our coasts and a moratorium on dams on our free-flowing rivers, ECNT has helped ensure that the Territory’s nature continues to flourish.

We want a positive future for the Northern Territory: one with abundant nature, a safe climate, and a just economy that supports community aspirations and wellbeing.
