Organisation Summary

Esperance Care Services seeks to relieve hardship, poverty and suffering in the south-east region of Western Australia. Established in 1996 in response to growing community needs, they have evolved from a small volunteer initiative into a highly regarded not-for-profit organisation supporting those in need.

Esperance Care Services delivers practical crisis and community support through their Emergency Relief and Advocacy services. Emergency Relief provides food, clothing and household goods to people experiencing financial crisis, helping reduce stress and prevent further hardship. Advocates assist clients to navigate complex systems and access services such as NDIS, MyAged Care, social welfare benefits and public housing, and more.

They also operate a community thrift shop offering affordable clothing, household goods and furniture. Community donations support the shop, with proceeds funding the organisation’s programs. Their waste reduction program diverts reusable goods from landfill through sorting, repurposing and redistribution, including producing rags from waste textiles.

Community support extends beyond the shop. The Making Memories youth program creates safe and positive experiences for children of clients. Each Friday evening, Esperance Care Services hosts a BBQ at the local bus shelter for people experiencing homelessness, isolation or financial hardship.

Esperance Care Services first received government funding for emergency relief in 2000 and gained DGR endorsement and PBI status in 2005. Supporting a diverse range of clients through both self-referral and external referrals, they maintain a strong commitment to ensuring accessibility for all, regardless of background.

Fourteen paid staff are supported by nearly 80 dedicated volunteers, whose contribution is essential to Esperance Care Services’ services and daily operations.
