First Nations Futures

First Nations Futures is a First Nations led-organisation driving economic justice in Australia. In August 2023, they launched a First Nations-led funding platform which creates an alternative pathway for First Nations community-driven initiatives to receive unrestricted and sustainable funding. The platform enables all people in Australia to collectively redistribute wealth and invest in First Nations community-driven initiatives creating intergenerational change.

First Nations Futures was established to respond to the economic barriers experiencing by First Nations community-driven initiatives. Across Australia, funding systems create greater inequity and control, where decision making processes are led predominantly by non-Indigenous people, and data estimates that “0.5% of philanthropic funding goes to First Nations communities.”* Alongside this, the colonial atrocities of past and present have brought fortune to many settlers, yet little continuous action is occurring to redistribute wealth and collectively invest in First Nations people and priorities.
