The vision of Firstchance is for a diverse and inclusive community for children and families. We provide a wide range of support, specialised information and services that are designed to meet the goals and aspirations of children, young people and their families living in the lower Hunter region. Our team is passionate about ensuring that families who are often left behind due to cultural, mental health and other socio-economic barriers receive the support they need. We have over 40 years’ experience working with local families.

We fundraise to provide supports to children aged 0-4yrs and their parents. Our Little Ones program is a ‘soft place to land’ for families who may have just received a diagnosis for their child, or they may have concerns with their child’s development. The Little Ones program fosters early childhood development through engaging, play-based learning facilitated by our Specialist Educators. The program supports social, emotional, and cognitive growth in a nurturing environment for families. Families tell us that they feel safe at Little Ones as they share common experiences and do not feel judged for their child’s differences.

The program also provides outreach support for families. A Specialist Educator provides home visiting and also links families to community supports. We have found that this is particularly welcomed by families from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds who, based on their visa status are not eligible for all government funded programs.

Funding will enable Firstchance to continue to provide this valuable community program.
