We are a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and conservation of koalas in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales. Since 1986, we have been committed to protecting wild koalas and their habitat through direct care, community education, advocacy, and habitat restoration.
Koalas are facing unprecedented threats from habitat destruction, disease, climate change, and vehicle collisions. Friends of the Koala addresses these challenges through 24/7 rescue and care services, a specialised koala hospital, a native plant nursery, and public education programs. We are uniquely placed to do this work with over 300 trained volunteers, regional partnerships, and decades of local experience.
Our current priorities include expanding our rescue and veterinary care capacity, growing and planting more koala food trees, increasing community engagement, and strengthening our research and advocacy efforts.
Funding directly supports critical veterinary care, wildlife rescue operations, habitat restoration, and volunteer training. In 2024 alone, we admitted over 400 koalas, planted 30,000 trees, and responded to more than 800 rescue calls—tangible outcomes that save lives and protect habitat.
