Fruit Share Adelaide is a volunteer-driven charity that rescues surplus fruit and vegetables from backyards and farms across Adelaide and the Adelaide Hills, redistributing them to people facing food insecurity. Since launching in January 2024, the organisation has rescued over 30,800kg of fresh produce that would otherwise have gone to waste.
Operating as a registered charity with the ACNC, Fruit Share Adelaide is 100% volunteer-operated with over 220 registered volunteers. The organisation has completed 282 harvests across 198 locations, spanning 20 council areas throughout Greater Adelaide.
This fresh produce is distributed to over 80 registered food relief organisations, including Foodbank SA, OzHarvest, Kickstart for Kids, schools, food pantries, and community groups serving vulnerable populations. Beyond food rescue, Fruit Share Adelaide builds community connections through educational workshops on fruit tree maintenance, pruning, and preservation techniques.
With strong governance foundations and proven impact, Fruit Share Adelaide aims to expand its operations significantly, potentially reaching 100,000kg annual harvest capacity with adequate resourcing, while developing a scalable model for similar initiatives across South Australia.
