Organisation Summary

The G.R.A.I.N. Store is a nationally recognised not-for-profit rural arts organisation based in Nathalia in Northern Victoria. For more than 15 years, they have transformed a former grain store into a vibrant cultural hub where creativity, community and connection come together through visual arts, live performance, creative learning and cultural engagement.

Established by internationally recognised artist Bill Kelly and a passionate group of local community members, The G.R.A.I.N. Store was founded on the belief that rural communities deserve access to high-quality arts experiences. Today, they continue to build on that vision by presenting a year-round program of curated exhibitions, artist talks, workshops, performances and community arts projects that foster participation, wellbeing and lifelong engagement with the arts.

The G.R.A.I.N. Store is recognised for supporting regional and emerging artists alongside nationally acclaimed practitioners. They have proudly welcomed artists including Tenzin Choegyal, Kankawa Nagarra and The Bushwackers, while also creating opportunities for local artists to exhibit, perform and develop their practice. Their programs celebrate creativity as a vehicle for inclusion, cultural expression and community resilience, with a strong commitment to First Nations voices, environmental sustainability and social justice.

Following Bill Kelly’s passing in 2022, the organisation has continued to evolve in response to community need. They have expanded focus beyond exhibitions to become a place where people of all ages can learn, create and connect through the arts. Their growing workshop program supports children, young people, adults and older residents to participate in meaningful creative experiences.
