Guthrie House Cooperative

Guthrie House is a specialist residential recovery service supporting women to rebuild their lives after trauma, homelessness, involvement with the criminal legal system, and domestic and family violence. Based on Gadigal land, we provide a safe, structured and culturally responsive environment for women, including First Nations women and mothers with children.

Our model integrates alcohol and other drug (AOD) recovery with holistic, trauma-informed support, including mental health care, parenting support, and pathways to stable housing and community reintegration. We recognise that substance use is often shaped by trauma and unsafe relationships, requiring coordinated responses that address both recovery and safety.

With over 40 years’ experience, Guthrie House delivers strong outcomes for women with complex needs, including stabilisation, reduced substance use, reconnection with children and family, and transition to safer, more stable housing. Our small, specialist model enables intensive, person-centred support, driving high engagement and sustained change for women who have often not been able to engage in larger or mainstream services.

Demand for our service consistently exceeds capacity. Our current priorities include maintaining a safe and functional residential environment, strengthening culturally safe practice, and expanding our capacity to meet increasing need.

Funding will directly support essential infrastructure, program delivery and practical supports that enable women to stabilise, recover and rebuild their lives with safety and dignity.
