Hear and Say is a Queensland-based not-for-profit organisation dedicated to ensuring children with hearing loss can reach their full potential. For more than 30 years, they have provided specialist paediatric audiology, speech pathology, listening and spoken language therapy, and school-based hearing screening. Their vision is a world where every child with hearing loss can thrive.
Advances in early detection and hearing technology mean children with hearing loss can achieve outcomes comparable to their hearing peers, but many families still face barriers to accessing timely support. Without intervention, hearing loss can affect language development, educational achievement, and lifelong wellbeing. Hear and Say is uniquely placed to address this challenge through three decades of clinical expertise and a proven model of family-centred, evidence-based care. Their research shows that over 85% of children enrolled before six months of age achieve language outcomes comparable to their hearing peers.
Their current priority is supporting children with hearing loss who are unable to access the National Disability Insurance Scheme, including families on temporary visas and children awaiting eligibility decisions. Funding will help provide essential audiology, speech pathology, listening and spoken language therapy, hearing technology support, and group programs that foster resilience, wellbeing, and social connection.
