Hunter Multicultural Communities (HMC) is a registered charity and public benevolent institution supporting culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities across Newcastle, the Hunter, Lake Macquarie, Port Stephens, and the Central Coast. Established in 1977, HMC is recognised as a peak multicultural organisation by Multicultural NSW.
Our vision is a cohesive, respectful, and equitable society. Our mission is to deliver inclusive, community-based programs that support wellbeing, independence, and belonging, particularly for seniors, people with disability, newly arrived migrants and refugees, and multicultural youth.
We are uniquely placed to deliver this work thanks to strong partnerships with government, community organisations, and over 70 CALD community groups. We address social isolation, cultural barriers, and access to essential services through a wide range of tailored programs.
Current priorities include:
- Aged care and wellbeing: culturally appropriate home visits, meals, and social support.
- Multicultural meal program: fresh, affordable meals delivered by and for the community.
- Community development: including a garden, shed, youth programs, volunteer hub, and major cultural events.
