Lighthouse Foundation

At Lighthouse, we provide children and young people who have experienced homelessness and/or trauma a safe place and the therapeutic relationships they need to heal, grow and thrive. The young people, children and babies in our care are at risk and are considered to be some of Australia’s most vulnerable people. They frequently come from backgrounds of abuse, neglect and exploitation.

Through community collaboration and our evidence-based Lighthouse Model of Care, we create therapeutic homes and deliver tailored support programs to transform the lives of young people. We also educate and support foster carers and families in the same way, so they too can care for some of Australia’s most vulnerable children.

Lighthouse delivers enduring outcomes through our holistic approach to care. The Lighthouse Model of Care is centred on each young person’s individual needs, and weaves together four key domains – their home, the young person’s wellbeing, support for carers, and engagement with the community. The framework integrates trauma-informed practice, attachment theory, and contemporary psychoanalytic principles of emotional development to create a holistic therapeutic environment. Children’s Services and Youth Services are provided, enabling support from pre-birth to 25 years of age. Children and youths can move seamlessly between different Lighthouse services and care environments as their needs change, so that they receive the support they need, wherever they are, for as long as they need it.
