Lou’s Place, located in Redfern, is a safe, welcoming and non-judgmental daytime drop-in centre for women in crisis. Since 1999 we have been providing a safe place for women, no matter their circumstances. Our vision is to contribute to a world where all women experience safety, support, and are empowered to live a life beyond survival, underpinned by dignity and autonomy. We believe creating a safe place is fundamental to establishing trust, and trust is essential to rebuilding lives.
We offer a range of holistic services such as case management, legal advice, crisis assistance, trauma recovery programs, support for court appearances and medical appointments. We also provide life skills training, community activities as well as providing for basic needs e.g showers, hot meals, washing machines etc. Our drop-in centre is designed to promote social connections, support relationship building and foster a resilient community.
We are ‘low barrier’ which means we welcome ALL women, many of whom are experiencing multiple traumas, mental health issues and substance use, and may not be eligible for many support services. Domestic violence and homelessness are two of the main reasons women seek our support. Our diverse community includes First Nations women, refugees, those from different cultural backgrounds and the LGBTQIA+ community.
