Love Mercy Foundation is an Australian charity empowering women and communities in northern Uganda to overcome poverty through sustainable, locally-led development. Founded in 2010 by Olympians Eloise Wellings (Australia) and Julius Achon (Uganda), the foundation emerged from a vision to restore hope and opportunity in communities devastated by decades of civil conflict.
Our mission is to co-design innovative, culturally appropriate solutions with local communities to improve wellbeing and reduce poverty. We focus on empowering women—who make up 79% of Uganda’s agricultural workforce—through programs that foster independence, dignity, and long-term resilience.
We are uniquely positioned through our deep local partnerships, especially with our implementing partner Love Mercy Uganda, which employs healthcare workers, agronomists, and engineers who ensure all projects are delivered with local expertise and ownership.
Current priorities include:
– Cents for Seeds: A microloan and agricultural training program reaching 29,000+ women, with 2,550 graduating to independent farming.
– Kristina Health Centre: Offering vital healthcare; over 74,000 patients treated and 1,500+ safe deliveries since 2012.
– Well Worth It: Drilling and restoring 86 wells to provide clean water access.
– Income Generating Activities: Supporting women to launch small businesses like tailoring.
Funding helps scale these programs, build climate resilience, and reach more underserved communities. According to our 2024 Social Impact Report with Huber Social, Cents for Seeds participants experienced an 8% increase in overall wellbeing—the highest recorded since 2018.
