Many Rivers empowers people and communities facing entrenched disadvantage to build sustainable livelihoods through enterprise. Our mission is to provide Microenterprise Development (MED), Small Business Development (SBD), and Community Economic Development (CED) support to Indigenous and other Australians who want to access the economy but lack financial or practical business support.
Systemic barriers such as welfare dependence, limited education, digital exclusion, discrimination, and disability, keep thousands locked out of opportunity, especially in regional and remote Australia. Indigenous communities face additional challenges of isolation and historical disadvantage.
Our business coaches live locally, providing hands-on and culturally safe support for up to 3 years. We combine practical business guidance with microfinance, assessed on character, capacity, and cashflow, not collateral. For Indigenous organisations, we commit to five-year partnerships to build governance and economic activity on Country.
In FY25, Many Rivers supported 528 clients to start or expand 482 businesses:
- 68.5% in regional or remote Australia
- 62% women-led
- 46% Indigenous businesses
- 21% report a disability
