Microlend’s mission is to alleviate poverty and suffering by providing loans to the world’s poorest people, enabling them to start small businesses that support their family and benefit their community. This aligns with the U.N.’s #No.1 Sustainable Development Goal

In terms of addressing poverty, donations often disempower people because they become reliant on the donations. By helping the world’s poorest people into small businesses, we provide them with an ongoing source of income and helps the economy within their community. When the loan is repaid the money is used to finance another business. By using the repaid loan repayments for new loans, Microlend aims to create a cycle of economic empowerment that transforms the lives of people in poverty across the developing world.

Microlend Australia’s approach to this challenge is unique.
– 100% of your donations go towards funding the loans for the poor. All administration and fund raising costs are absorbed by the volunteers and founders of Microlend Australia
– Microlend Australia is totally run by volunteers and pro-bono contributions. There are no salaries paid which means that administration costs are kept to a minimum.
– Every business created is designed to be self sustaining. Even the overseas Microfinance centres themselves are designed to become financially independent.
– Microlend Australia provides simple, yet effective training and ongoing mentoring/support for each new borrower.
– Microlend Australia can see every loan that has ever been issued, as well as what stage the repayments are at, using cloudbased accounting software.
