Midsumma is Australia’s premier LGBTQIA+ arts and cultural organisation, best known for its annual Midsumma Festival—a 22-day celebration held each summer in Melbourne. The festival showcases over 200 events spanning visual arts, performance, music, film, and community engagement, attracting more than 255,000 attendees annually.
Midsumma provides a platform for diverse queer voices and underrepresented communities through both curated and open-access programming, highlighting stories of lived experience, identity, and creative expression.
Beyond the festival, Midsumma runs year-round programs such as Midsumma Pathways, a national mentorship initiative supporting Deaf, disabled, and neurodiverse LGBTQIA+ artists. With a strong focus on intersectionality and inclusion, Midsumma leads initiatives to engage First Nations communities, culturally and linguistically diverse groups, young and older LGBTQIA+ people, trans and gender-diverse communities, and rainbow families.
Since 1988, Midsumma has played a critical role in fostering visibility, connection, and artistic development across queer communities, positioning itself as a vital cultural leader in Australia.
