Mine Watch Meander Valley Inc

We are a community-driven organisation initially formed to stand against ABx Group Ltd’s bauxite mine proposal, which threatens the natural environment, our farmlands and unique local industries. Beyond their initial proposal, ABx has been extensively drilling in an important local Conservation Area and native forest lands declaring their intention to mine Heavy Metals. These projects risk irreversible damage to the environment, our lands, waterways and would damage our way of life. These companies have done this without doing community consultation, but we are united in protecting our future.

Through community awareness campaigns, public meetings, petitions and meetings with the local council, we have fought hard to halt this needless proposal. We faced a significant setback when the Meander Valley Council approved the bauxite mine proposal despite a record number of objections.

In response, we have appealed this decision through TASCAT (Tasmanian Civil and Administrative Tribunal). We realised that the cost of not acting far outweighs the cost of acting now.

The TASCAT hearing is scheduled for September 2025. Any funding received will go directly towards the costs of the appeal.
