Mornington Peninsula Koala Conservation

Mornington Peninsula Koala Conservation is the largest and most successful revegetation organisation on the Mornington Peninsula. They partner with many local groups including local and Indigenous ecologists who contribute detailed flora knowledge and advice. They also use local contractors and source plants from a First Nations owned nursery. Local school groups are involved in planting, and they have regular attendance at regional events. The Mornington Peninsula Koala Conservation collaborate with the Bunurong Land Council and members attend tree planting days. They also have fantastic support from public landowners including local Councils, Parks Victoria, the Department of Defense and Water Corporations.

Usually around forty volunteers attend Mornington Peninsula Koala Conservation tree planting events. They plant most weekends during autumn and winter. Throughout the five-month tree planting season it is estimated that around 1,500 people will give their time to be involved in this project. The project aims to engage all levels of community and bring positive, simple messaging to the general population. Mornington Peninsula Koala Conservation volunteer planters come from many diverse backgrounds. They include young families seeking to offset carbon emissions, people of all ages looking to convert climate anxiety into action, community and church groups of different faiths aiming to contribute positively to the local environment and dedicated animal protection activists concerned about the plight of Australian fauna.

Last winter Mornington Peninsula Koala Conservation planted more than 25,000 trees and shrubs with an additional 5,000 trees given away to eligible landholders. Their project has seen more than 100,000 indigenous seedlings planted over the last five years.
