Organisation Summary

National Indigenous Youth Education Coalition is the only national Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth-led organisation committed to education systems change. They bring together young mob from across the continent to share the collective passion for education, using design thinking, convening, research, and capacity building to drive a multi-generational systems-change agenda.

Founded in 2015, National Indigenous Youth Education Coalition grew from a single advocacy workshop. What began as a volunteer collective of co-founders has since become a registered Indigenous corporation with charity status. Today, National Indigenous Youth Education Coalition is led by a board and staff who are majority Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people under the age of 35.

National Indigenous Youth Education Coalition believe that self-determination does not just happen, it requires young people to develop the skills, literacies, and agency needed to enact it. That conviction sits at the heart of the National Indigenous Youth Education Coalition learning ecosystem, which is made up of a holistic suite of programs that connects and supports networks of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people. Each initiative is designed to demonstrate what they believe an ideal learning system looks like in practice, by creating meaningful connections across the learning journey.

To date, National Indigenous Youth Education Coalition has engaged more than 1,300 young people and over 8,500 educators and community members across every jurisdiction in Australia. Their vision, simply put: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with self-determination throughout their learning lives
