Target Population
- General population
Operating since 1975, we are an Australian charity with the mission to always be there for the community delivering the highest standard of aeromedical and rescue services to those in need. We are tasked by NSW Ambulance in response to emergency Triple Zero (000) calls. We are on call 24/7 to reach those in need when time is critical or if they cannot be accessed by ground-based emergency services.
We perform three main mission types being ‘Pre-Hospital Emergency Response’ to 000 calls; ‘Inter hospital Transfers’ to airlift critical patients requiring specialist treatment in an alternate hospital, and ‘Search and Rescue’ over both land and water in conjunction with national and state agencies. We are a key provider of pre-hospital care and retrieval services across a 152,000 square kilometre operations area from the Hawkesbury River just north of Sydney up to the Queensland border and west as far as Dubbo and Bourke. We serve a population of 1.5 million, flying around 1,500 aeromedical missions a year from three bases at Lake Macquarie, Lismore, and Tamworth.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service is a registered charity with the Australian Charities and Not for Profit Commission and operate as a Public Benevolent Institution endorsed as a deductible gift recipient (DGR) with our NSW Charitable Fundraising Authority (CFN) number 11992.
