The Northern Rivers Wildlife Hospital is dedicated to ensuring injured, sick and orphaned native wildlife receive the specialist veterinary care needed to recover and return to the wild.
Northern Rivers Wildlife Hospital’s vision is a future where Australia’s native wildlife thrives alongside healthy ecosystems and resilient communities. Their mission is to provide world-class veterinary care, rehabilitation, education and conservation initiatives that improve wildlife welfare and protect biodiversity across the Northern Rivers of NSW.
The Northern Rivers is one of Australia’s biodiversity hotspots, yet native wildlife faces increasing threats from habitat loss, vehicle strikes, domestic animal attacks, disease, bushfires and extreme weather events. As these pressures continue to grow, so too does the demand for specialist wildlife veterinary services.
Since opening in 2025, the Northern Rivers Wildlife Hospital has treated more than 2,000 native animals, including koalas, kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas, gliders, possums, birds and reptiles. Working alongside licensed wildlife rescue groups, carers, veterinarians and community volunteers, they provide life-saving treatment while contributing to long-term conservation outcomes through education, collaboration and improved wildlife health. Their current priorities include expanding their wildlife rehabilitation facilities and enclosures, increasing access to specialist equipment, growing their volunteer and community education programs, and ensuring long-term financial sustainability.
Northern Rivers Wildlife Hospital receive no ongoing government funding and rely on the generosity of individuals, foundations, corporate partners and the community to continue this essential work.
