Numburindi Corporation Limited

Numburindi Corporation Limited (NCL) is an Aboriginal community-controlled organisation based in Numbulwar on Nunggubuyu Country in South East Arnhem Land, Northern Territory. Established in 2010 and entirely owned and governed by Numburindi leaders, NCL operates under the vision Strong People, Strong Culture and a Strong Local Economy. Its purpose is to improve the lives of Aboriginal people in the Numbulwar region through self-determination: Numburindi people working for the advancement of Numburindi people.

NCL addresses the geographic and economic isolation of remote Aboriginal community life by creating local employment, supporting cultural maintenance, and delivering community-shaped services — with surpluses from its enterprises reinvested directly into Numbulwar.

Its primary enterprise, the Numburindi Store, has been under community ownership since 2011 and employs more than 20 local Indigenous staff. Numbulwar Numburindi Arts, established in 2019, supports more than 50 artists from the Wubuy and Ritharrngu language groups and has earned national and international recognition for innovative fibre art. Recent initiatives include a community op shop opened in 2025 and a mobile laundry service launching in 2026 in partnership with Orange Sky Australia.

Funding would support NCL’s capacity to grow these initiatives, employ more local people, and deepen investment in cultural and economic life in Numbulwar.
