Outback Instincts Ltd

Outback Instincts Ltd is a Queensland based not for profit charity supporting young people across the Darling Downs who are disengaged from education, employment, or traditional support services. Based on a working rural property near Toowoomba, we deliver practical, animal and land based programs that help young people build confidence, skills, and a sense of purpose.

Our vision is to see young people feel capable, connected, and valued within their communities. Our mission is to provide early intervention support through meaningful work, mentoring, and real responsibility in rural environments. We support young people experiencing mental health challenges, disability, social disadvantage, or limited access to positive opportunities particularly those who do not thrive in classroom based or clinical settings.

Our work is guided by the philosophy of Tools, Trust, and Transformation. Through consistent mentoring and real world experiences, we support lasting change. Flagship programs include Youth in the Yards, Equine Elevate, Paddock to Purpose, The Paddock Project, and Paws on the Ground, where young people train therapy dogs that visit aged care facilities.

Outback Instincts is well placed to deliver this work through lived experience, a strong rural base, and trusted community partnerships. Evidence of impact includes improved confidence, behaviour, engagement, and re-connection pathways reported by families, schools, and partner services. Our current priority is sustaining program delivery and animal care so we can continue supporting young people across the region.
