Organisation Summary

At Paper Cranes Children’s Foundation, our mission is to support young children and youth who are born with, living with, or battling life-limiting or life-debilitating conditions, as well as those facing life-threatening illnesses and children in need of palliative care.

Having a very sick, profoundly disabled, or dying child has an enormous impact on the entire family unit—so our support extends to the whole family. One of our major ambitions is to establish a children’s respite and wellness centre. This will be a smaller-scale model inspired by the UK’s children’s hospice system and adapted from existing Australian well-established children’s hospices. While the UK has 54 children’s hospices—at least one in nearly every county—Australia currently has only three. We urgently need more home-like regional facilities to give children and their families better and faster access to essential services, incorporating respite, short breaks, emergency care, rest, play , therapies , precious memories making and ongoing family support beyond the centre walls.

We are now in the final stages of developing Wattle Cottage—a specialist respite and wellness centre designed to brighten the lives of children, no matter how long or short their journey may be. Our foundation is based in Logan, SE Queensland, and the centre will serve families and children travelling from Northern NSW and from all SE Queensland. Unlike existing government-supported children’s hospices, Wattle Cottage will operate as a fully independent model, entirely reliant on our ongoing work, full commitment, charitable partnerships, donations, and community support.
