The PMI Victorian History Library (PMI) is a community owned and run library, specialising in the history of Victoria, Australia. The PMI is dedicated to preserving, promoting, and protecting all the multifaceted voices that make up the history of Victoria.
The PMI is not just a repository of books and information: it is an integral part of the local community. Established in 1854, the library has served as a meeting place, a source of knowledge and a beacon of culture for over a century and a half. Its unique and curated collection of over 40,000 items attracts local community members, researchers, historians and family history researchers. The extensive collection of resources, from books and journals to heritage studies and films is vital for preserving the history of Victoria and supporting ongoing research and education. Its program of activities includes book launches, exhibitions, lectures, a history showcase, and author talks which facilitate the study of history, and specifically our local community history.
One of the wonderful aspects of the PMI is that it welcomes everyone. No matter your age, background or interests, there is a space for quiet study and research within its walls. It is a place where diverse voices and experiences can thrive.
