Prison Fellowship Australia
Field of Interest
- Individual/family services and support
Target Population
- People impacted by the legal system
Prison Fellowship Australia has operated in Australia for more than 40 years. With the support of our dedicated volunteers, we deliver programs to support prisoners and their families. We believe that even the most broken lives can be restored, and we seek to bring a message of hope and change for prisoners, ex-offenders and their families.
Inside prisons, we offer one-on-one visits that provide prisoners with enduring support and companionship, and arts and sports programs. We also offer a variety of in-prison courses that seek to build character, promote personal reflection and foster reconciliation between prisoners and victims of crime. We then support prisoners to transition into the community through post-release support.
Lastly, we focus on the children of prisoners, who are statistically six times more likely to be incarcerated than their peers. Many of these children experience a range of developmental and social challenges due to having a parent in prison. We support these children to grow in their self-esteem, realise their potential and thrive.
We rely on financial support from individuals and charitable foundations to carry out our work, and volunteers deliver all our activities. We work in every Australian state and territory.
