Psychology for a Safe Climate (PSC) is an Australian mental health promotion charity at the intersection of climate change and mental wellbeing. Guided by values of community, compassion, inner transformation, eco-connection, and integrity, PSC helps people and groups engage with and be empowered by the emotional dimensions of the climate crisis.
Founded 15 years ago around a Melbourne kitchen table, PSC has since reached over 15,000 participants across Australia through campaigns, workshops and Climate Cafes, and trained more than 500 climate-aware professionals. What began as a volunteer driven initiative has grown into a national movement with a dedicated staff team, an active board, and a thriving community of practitioners and collaborators.
Grounded in the belief that emotions move us, and we move the climate, PSC’s work integrates psychological insight with climate action to build capacity for individuals, communities, and sectors responding to the climate and nature crisis. Through our Care in Action strategy (2026 – 2030), PSC advances three key areas: boosting support for climate emotions and psychological distress, building inner skills needed for societal change, and advocating for systems solutions that embed mental health and justice at the heart of climate responses and adaptation.
Your support will help us:
– Deliver our Climate Cafe Program. This includes monthly Climate Cafes and building capability through training, mentorship and supervision. Our program includes offering four types of monthly PSC Climate Cafes for various audiences: community/general public, youth (with Ecomind), climate movement, and reef grief cafes (with Divers for Climate).
– Implement innovative training to up-skill the healthcare workforce to be Climate Aware in their practice and services
– Deliver climate emotions literacy and mental health skills aimed at preventing climate-burnout and growing wellbeing as we respond collectively to the climate and nature crisis
