Publish What You Pay (PWYP) is a coalition of transparency, social justice, environment and human rights organisations working to improve transparency and accountability, social and environmental impacts in the mining, oil, gas industry and ensure climate change solutions deliver a just energy transition for everyone.

PWYP Australia is part of the PWYP global coalition and network of over 1000 organisations. PWYP members work to ensure that the emerging transition minerals market is well-regulated, transparent, just and equitable. They advocate for an urgent coordinated effort to transform the way minerals are extracted and consumed, giving priority to solutions that reduce our dependence on mining.

We recognise that an active civil society and detailed research are critical tools to make change and improve outcomes. In Australia, our focus is on improving access to information and identifying and developing mechanisms for communities to hold mining, oil and gas companies and governments to account. In the context of the need to phase out the extraction of fossil fuels and the increasing risks associated with mining and processing critical minerals – we are actively working with our coalition to achieve policy reform across the areas of environment, heritage, social impact, tax and transparency.

We advocate for access to information, community rights, participation in decision making – to protect heritage, improve social outcomes, minimise environmental impacts – and the right to say no to projects.

We work on finding and utilising new mechanisms for communities to hold industry and governments to account.
