Riding for the Disabled Association, Blue Mountains Centre.

Riding for the Disabled, Blue Mountains is a registered charity providing equine therapy for disabled children and adults. We also have a scheme whereby we seek out sponsors for disadvantaged children who otherwise would not be able to access our unique services. We have children at present on this pilot scheme that identify as Aboriginal.

We receive no funding from Council or Government, our Volunteers continually fundraise to keep our six special horses fit and well and maintain the Centre. No one is paid at RDA Blue Mountains. We run classes Thursdays and Saturdays and have a Waitlist of disabled children wanting equine therapy. Physios and OTs bring participants to riding sessions with their clients and Paediatric Specialists have requested an increase in sessions to avoid hip surgery for young participants. We take children into sessions from 3 years of age with wide ranging disabilities as early intervention is so important.

We are in need of another special pony for disabled children to enable us to reduce our Waitlist and offer our unique therapeutic service to more people throughout the year. Typically, new horses/ponies coming into our program take 3/6 months training at the Centre before they can be passed as suitable to join therapeutic sessions with participants.
