Rio’s Legacy (Rio’s Gift Limited) is a registered Australian charity dedicated to improving paediatric palliative care by building children’s hospices and supporting families facing the unimaginable loss of a child. Inspired by the life of Rio Fowler, our vision is that every child with a life-limiting illness in Australia has access to world-class care in a safe, supportive environment. Our mission is to raise awareness, advocate for services, and deliver purpose-built facilities where children and their families can find comfort, dignity, and holistic support.

Right now, paediatric palliative care in Australia is critically under-resourced. There are only three dedicated children’s hospices nationwide, forcing many families to choose between hospital wards or home without specialised support. We are addressing this gap by building a new hospice in Western Sydne to serve thousands of families in one of the fastest-growing regions in the country.

Rio’s Legacy is uniquely placed to lead this work. We have secured $13 million in funding over 10 years from our major partners, GWS Giants and Mounties Group, and $20 million from the NSW Government to build Mounties Care Cottage through Building Rio’s Legacy. We also have strong collaboration with the Sydney Children’s Hospital Network and Foundation.
